Katin boardshorts were created by Walter and Nancy Katin, owners of a small boat cover business in Surfside, California. The Katin’s prided themselves on their high quality canvas boat covers that were made with waxed nylon thread and nickel grommets to withstand the harsh sea environment. Though they sometimes made board shorts for friends and family, it wasn’t until a local surfer came to them with a dilemma that the Katin’s began to see potential for a new business. At the time, there was no real surf attire except cut off jeans, which quickly frayed and split in the salt water. Katin shorts were produced with the same strength and quality as their boat covers which, coupled with the low key atmosphere of their shop, created a loyal following. Today Katin trunks are still kept to the same high standards and are a great choice for someone looking for classic, high quality boardshorts.
