Thanks to brands like American Apparel, the cardigan is coming back into focus in a big way this fall, especially now that they can actually be worn reasonably. Most brands now have some decent cardigans on the market, with some (again, like American Apparel and the various Urban Outfitters brands) making some strange variations.
Verdict:
Avoid everything but the traditional and masculine. Avoid the large buttoned cardigans, super loose cardigans, or double breasted cardigans- stick with a simple, well fitted, and very masculine cardigan in a dark color. A nice darker gray cardigan will work with a suit, with jeans, or even over a t-shirt (if you must).
