I keep having holes rubbed in the crotch of my Acne jeans. What can I do to prevent that?
The simple answer: not much.
“Crotch blowout” occurs because of friction between your legs. This friction wears away at even the thickest of fabrics over time, ultimately resulting in holes in the crotch of your pants. While small holes can be more or less ignored, there’s usually a point where pants become simply too revealing to be worn – and then it’s time to simply throw them away. Brands like Acne are known for having blowout issues because the denim tends to be a bit thinner than usual, but blowout can happen to any pair of pants – jeans, dress pants, you name it.
There are some ways to repair pants, including hand-darning them or patching them, but these fixes kick the can down the proverbial road. Both hand-darning and patching still leave the frayed fabric more or less intact, which is still going to wear away over time. It is also quite noticeable – something you may not necessarily want.
This leads to an important lesson: don’t spend money on clothing you aren’t willing to wear and eventually throw away. Even the hardiest and most expensive of jeans, like Iron Heart, are going to wear out at some point.
