I have to deal with sweating a lot. Even the slightest bit of physical activity gets me hot and bothered pretty quickly, for example, walking for 10 minutes will result in me sweating a bit. I used to think it was because I was a bit overweight but I have since lost quite a bit of weight and I’m exercising more, I’m in good physical health and yet this problem persists. I’ve tried all kinds of products to deal with it but at present the only thing I find useful is roll-on anti-perspirant which helps a little bit, but nowhere near enough, and cologne to mask the smell of the sweat.
Believe it or not, your health is part of the reason you’re sweating. As silly as it sounds, sweating is not entirely a bad thing. Still, you certainly want to deal with the sweating issue, so here’s how:
- If you are drinking too much caffeine or using an ECA stack, stop. Caffeine, among other stimulants, can make you hyper and sweat a lot more than you normally should, raises your body temperature, and it can also make regular physical activity slightly more difficult (despite the energy boost). Personally, I try to avoid all caffeine especially when hitting the gym for this very reason, despite the energy boosting effects. Your results may vary.
- Wear an undershirt as much as possible. So far as the visual issues are concerned, an undershirt will do wonders. Depending on your taste, you can go with something as simple as a wifebeater, or something more protective such as a snugly fitted v-neck T-shirt. I’d recommend something tight and very well fitting to hide under other shirts, so consider brands like American Apparel in smaller sizes that will be tight against your body.
- Consider prescription deodorant. If you live in the USA, brands like Drysol are prescription only, but very effective. Prescription stuff will probably give you more of a “kick” than what you have now. Keep in mind that even non-prescription deodorants tend to have aluminum in them, which can stain your clothing with regular use — the undershirts will help here.
- Drink more fluids. Drinking more fluids can help reduce your body temperature, keep your body more healthy, and even can any sweat you do have smell slightly better. The more water, the better.
- Hit more cardio. While I haven’t seen any sort of actual documentation proving this, some of my friends have recommended cardio in this realm, as allegedly it helps your body get used to even small bouts of physical strain more easily, and thus sweating/panting is less likely. Your goal here, in general, would be to raise your VO2 Max.
